This Weather App Has Had A Million Downloads

It's been a couple of years since I first wrote about YoWindow, and at the time it was on version 2.  It's now up to version 4, and has been downloaded more than a million times since then.  And when you try it out, it's not hard to see why.

YoWindow is a screen saver for Windows which shows the current weather and the forecast for the next few days.  There are plenty of such programs around, but this one is pretty cool.  For a start, it shows an animated version of the current weather (as you can see, it's raining quite hard where I am now, and it's dark).  It also knows about tens of thousands of cities all around the world, so it probably knows all about your location too.

You can even choose your own background image if you don't like the standard ones, and it'll adjust the image's colours according to the current weather in your area.  And if your image is a landscape which includes sky, you can configure it to supplement the sky in your image with a realistic overlay (darkness, clouds, bright sun, etc).

This is a really neat program, and is free for Windows.  It's an 11 MB download from http://yowindow.com/download and is malware-free according to VirusTotal and Web of Trust.

Looks neat but when you click on download button on yo window website it redirects to cnet website which we all know is notorious for bundling open candy, etc with the program. Any alternative download sites?

Scroll down to 'Download problems? Try to download YoWindow directly'. Click on 'download YoWindow directly'.

Thanks for the tip. It worked.

I didn't spot that bit of info when I initially went to yo window website.

I haven't used a screensaver in years. I really can't understand why people still do. Most computer power saving settings (even the archaic Windows XP) will turn the monitor off after a short time anyway. So what is there to look at? I guess I just don't get it.

"screen saver" or "screen waster" ?

Please expand on your comment. Looks pretty harmless to me and it's kind of cool.

If the screen works all the time, this doesn't exactly improve its life-time.

I give it a 5 star rateing. Use this all the time- Just love it.
