There are lots of great freeware programs around that capture all or part of your screen. I happen to use one called Greenshot, and just about every screen capture that you've seen in my Hot Find posts over the past few years were produced with it.
But here's another screen capture tool which has a neat trick up its sleeve. If you grab an image that contains text, the tool will automatically submit the captured area to Google's free OCR service, and attempt to extract the actual text for you. So you end up with both a picture and some editable text.
Very handy if, say, you see an image of a page from a newspaper and you want to extract the text. The program is called Easy Screen OCR and you'll find it at https://easyscreenocr.com/. It's a 7 MB download. The file is malware-free according to VirusTotal, and the download site is rated as reputable by Web of Trust.
