Possibly the Best Calendar Widget Yet

UpNext app iconUpNextIt's probably a bold statement to say this is the best calendar widget for Android 4.1 and above but it ticks all the boxes. It's free, attractive, shows you what you need to know and is simple to use, so what are you waiting for?

UpNext, though still in development, is a good example of what can be done with a widget which, in general, is hard to get excited about. Your calendar entries are displayed in a tidy informative manner. It displays all of your calendars, a pleasant change over other offerings by the competition that only allows you to display one or two in their free versions. This should suit most people.

You begin by adding the widget to a home screen in the usual way and you are offered some simple choices. First, you choose your theme, text and background color and opacity. Then you tap next. The free version defaults to show all calendars, then tap 'Add Widget'. You can resize and position it to your liking.

A good way to use it is to add a new empty page to your home screen and resize the widget to fill that page on your phone. Then, you have a handy list of all your upcoming calendar events at a glance as shown in the image here. If you need more information about a calendar entry, simply tap it to open the item in your calendar app. That's all there is to it. Simple, straightforward and attractive.

If you're feeling adventurous, the developer is looking for testers to test and try out new features in his next versions of the widget. As it's still under development, there are a few rough edges but UpNext widget certainly rates consideration as your 'at a glance' calendar display on your phone or tablet.
