Pros & Cons:
The network meter NetMeter is a simple beauty, graphically as well as in regards to quality and usability. Development paused since 2009 but was picked up again in 2013 resulting in version 2.0 evo. It does not offer as many settings as Networx but the stay-on-top histogram window with its customizable transparency is an awesome idea to keep your network traffic in sight.
NetMeter does not need to be installed. Just doubleclick the executable file from the ZIP and off you go. When NetMeter starts it stays on top of other windows awaiting your right mouse click in its window area. The first stop you want to make is the Option menu. You will notice that you have quite a load of features to choose from to make NetMeter measure what you want and present it to you as you want.
Besides of the window properties (stay on top, show caption, snap to edges, transparency, etc.) you can also influence background, colors fonts and grid to fit your taste. On top of the colored graph (shonwing upload, download and total as overlay bars) you can also display current and total DL/UL values as text.
Unfortunately the "Totals" section has been removed in version 2.0.0. So no reporting anymore on your traffic history. Too bad. That makes it lose one star in my rating.
I would really appreciate if I could set the max and min scale values to reflect my individual Internet connection speed. The autoscaling always needs a second look to figure out what the top speed currently is.
