Be My Eyes connects blind and low-vision individuals to sighted volunteers all over the world via a live video call.
Be My Eyes connects volunteers that assist blind and low-vision users through a live video connection to handle a wide range of tasks. Some of the tasks are reading labels (product, prescription etc.), finding lost or dropped items or items in a room, assistance shopping in supermarkets, help identifying and matching clothing, checking product ingredients, expiration dates, public transportation schedules, and much more.
The Specialized Help section assists users that need free technical support for their various electronic devices.
Be My Eyes has their own technical support and has partnered with the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk whose staff is trained to work with the blind and vision impaired. The Be My Eyes technical support is available during specific hours, while the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk is available 24/7. Microsoft’s Disability Answer Desk is a free consumer service for Microsoft’s customers with disabilities and My Eyes customers through the app.
Most calls last a few minutes. When someone needs assistance, a notification goes out to several volunteers, and whoever answers the call first assists the caller. Calls are connected based on daytime time zone and language. Average wait time is about 15 seconds and calls usually last a few minutes. Volunteers are anonymous during calls and don’t appear on the video.
This is a wonderful app that assists anyone who is visually impaired and allows sighted people to help on their schedule without a large time commitment.
Be My Eyes is accessible in more than 150 countries worldwide and in over 180 languages. The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.
