If you're using Windows 8.x you're probably also using the new Start screen. Well, unless you're like me and you spent ages making Windows 8 behave like Win7, and you always use the desktop. But hey, let's not go there!
While the new Start screen is an OK place to find all your program icons, it doesn't really do much else. Which is why I was quite impressed to hear about a program called Start Screen Unlimited, which aims to address that shortcoming.
Start Screen Unlimited adds a bar of icons and gadgets to your Start screen, so you can do more. The free version gives you buttons to access the power menu and the Windows control panel, as well as a Google search bar. Plus a clock and calendar. You can move the bar around the Start screen, too, by dragging with the blue "infinity" icon.
The paid-for Pro version gives you more features and widgets, and also allows for commercial use.
Start Screen Unlimited Lite is a 2 MB download from http://www.greatis.com/startscreenunlimited/ and works on Windows 8 and 8.1. It's malware-free according to Web of Trust and VirusTotal.
