System information utilities are very useful aids to maintaining a PC and one of the best known is SiSoftware Sandra. This software has been around a long time but is frequently updated. SiSoftware sells commercial programs but a free edition for personal use is available with reduced features. A new free version called Sandra Lite 2015 has just been released so I decided to take a look at it.
SiSoftware Sandra Lite 2015 may have fewer features than the pay versions but it will still provide enough system information to keep most PC users busy. Both 32- and 64-bit systems are supported. The latest version of the program has support for Windows Vista, 7, 8.x, and 10 but no support for Windows XP. The developer gives a list of download links here.
The download is 67 MB so it is quite a large program. Also, it has to be installed. MalwareBytes and VirusTotal give it a clean bill of health. Running the program requires administrative privileges. The interface provides a wide selection of categories with a number of tabs. The graphic below illustrates the display for the hardware tab. Clicking one of the displayed icons opens a window with a lot of detailed information. After clicking an icon, there may be a delay of a minute or more while the program carries out an analysis of the selected system components. The results of an analysis can be sent to a file if desired.
My personal choice of system information utility is Belarc Advisor, which provides a level of information sufficient for many purposes. However, experienced PC users may find the large assortment of technical information available in SiSoftware Sandra to be useful for more advanced diagnostic tests.
