Epic Games opened the doors to their new store and the makers of Fortnite and Unreal Tournament will release a free title about twice a month through 2019, along with a growing choice of paid titles.

The site is new and currently hosts six titles, with more on the way. In addition to Fortnite and Unreal Tournament, you'll find Epic's own Shadow Complex and three other games: Hades by Supergiant Games, Ashen by Annapurna/A44, and Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek by tinyBuild.
Genesis Alpha One by Team17 can be pre-purchased now, and these other titles will be arriving soon:

  • Darksiders III by THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games
  • Satisfactory by Coffee Stain
  • Outer Wilds by Annapurna Interactive and Mobius Digital
  • Rebel Galaxy Out Law by Double Damage
  • Journey by Annapurna Interactive | ThatGameCompany
  • Super Meat Boy Forever by Team Meat
  • Maneater by Tripwire

Subnautica will be free from December 14 through December 27, and Super Meat Boy will be free between December 28 and January 10, 2019. It's not clear right now if the free games will be permanent or free for the two weeks they are available.

The Epic Game launcher (still in beta with basic features) downloads a small program that when installed downloads the current version. The launcher needs to be installed to get any of the free games.
Epic Games store supports Windows (7, 8.1, 10) and macOS (Mac OS X 10.10.5 - Fortnite requires Mac OS X 10.12.6 or higher) with an Android version in the works.

You'll need an account to use the store; an existing Epic account or a PlayStation, Xbox Live, Nintendo, Facebook or Google account. Or create an account with an email and password.

Update: There have been some hiccups with registration using email and a password. You don't receive a confirmation email when you create an account. To verify your account, go to account settings. There should be a message at the top that says
"You have not verified your account. For security purposes, you should verify your email address. Click here to resend"
You should get a verification email. You can log in and out using the credentials you used to sign up with no. Many user names are already in use. If the one you entered is taken, you'll see a notice in red letters.
If you lose your password, use the "forgot password' function at the login screen. You'll get an email with password reset instructions.
Note: I was able to start the installation of a game without verifying the email address. The game wasn't downloaded or played due to limited bandwidth.

I have tried 8 times to open an account there. NONE of the emails came through for me to verify my account. I still cannot get in.

That's frustrating.

I signed up using a gmail account I keep for such things. I  don't recall a welcome email, but I  logged out of the site and back in.

I just created another account. I signed up using an email address, first and last, password, and username. I was logged in using that info after account creation. I reloaded the page and was apparently logged out. I went to the login screen and clicked the forgot password link. I got a reset password email immediately. I reset the password and was able to login with the new password. User name, email address and account info were all the same. If you were able to create an account but didn't get an email, try resetting the password with the account info you used. They are in beta, this looks like a hiccup.

I signed in using a FAKE googl account. CHANGED it to hotmail, created a new FAKE username. WITHOUT A PASSWORD ! Then I got in. NO verification of any email so far. Could not get into the game launcher. Created ANOTHER account, got in again with NO email verification. Sighed in asked them to RESEND email verification. Found it and confirmed account.

In Asia here. "...not available in your region"

That's not good. Have you tried a VPN?
