Encrypt Your Files Before Sharing Confidential Documents

AES Crypt

Two best free file encryption utilities, namely AxCrypt and AES Crypt, are recommended in this article at Gizmo's Freeware. Both programs use the industry standard Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to securely encrypt files to protect your information from unauthorized access.

Alongside their desktop versions, both offer mobile versions so that you can easily decrypt a file on the move when you have received an encrypted file with the respective programs.

AxCrypt is free and good enough for use on a PC but unfortunately its mobile version is not free. It asks for a premium subscription after a trial period.

If a recipient wants to decrypt a file on a phone, it is then a wise move to use AES Crypt, a free open-source desktop software product that has ported to mobile platforms.

Its Android mobile version Crypt4All Lite (AES) is ad supported, free for both encryption and decryption; its iOS mobile version AESCrypt is free for decryption and requires an in-app purchase for encryption.

Install Crypt4All Lite (AES) on your Android phones or tablets, or get AESCrypt on iPhone or iPad mobile devices. Both are compatible with files encrypted with the desktop app AES Crypt.

Sorry; I'm confused over which app is completely free for which platform. I thought I saw a contradiction there with AESCrypt.

Would you mind adding a list such as the following? -

COMPLETELY FREE-
PC: x app, y app, z app
ANDROID: x app, y app, z app
APPLE: x app, y app, z app

PC: AES Crypt, completely free;

Android: Crypt4All Lite (AES), free and ad supported;

Apple iOS: AESCrypt, free for decryption only.

Sorry for the confusion. I've now edited some paragraphs to make things clearer.
