Blur, Pixelate or Black Out part of an image in a few clicks with this online tool.
This site lets you redact parts of an image by adding a blurred, pixelated or black box to any area of an image.
There's no need to open up an image editor to redact parts of an image you don't want to be visible, this web tool makes it quick and painless.
The Redact site is simple to use. Upload, paste or copy an image into the box then click and drag to outline the area of the image you want to redact. Double click inside the box to cycle through blur, pixelated and black out effects. If you keep double clicking on the image, you can choose an oval shape instead of a box to redact the image.
You can select multiple areas on an image to be redacted and use a different type (blur, pixelate, black out) for each area.
The settings button reveals a slider to change the level of concealment.
Any images uploaded to Redact are not sent to or stored on a server, everything works within your local browser, which means you can also use it offline.
There's nothing fancy or elaborate about this online tool, if you want to blur a license plate or pixelate someone out of an image this is a good option. It worked fine on a PC but didn't work on mobile for me.
It's worth noting that if you have a large dark area (like letters on a sign) you want to redact that's on a light background, it maybe still be readable even with the conceal tool set to maximum. Reducing the image and then redacting it conceals high contrast areas better than using a full size image.
