Atlas Obscura is a place where you can find off the beaten path treasures from around the world.
This description from the site sums it up nicely:
"In an age where everything seems to have been explored and there is nothing new to be found, we celebrate a different way of looking at the world. If you're searching for miniature cities, glass flowers, books bound in human skin, gigantic flaming holes in the ground, bone churches, balancing pagodas, or homes built entirely out of paper, the Atlas Obscura is where you'll find them.
You can explore the site using places, articles and the random place tab. I spent (ok, lost) some time here, the entries are easy to read and well photographed. I found several places in my home state that I didn't know about and some I did. Atlas Obscura is a collaboration between the site and a world wide community so you can visit or add some sites of your own. All in all, a great place to visit.
