A lot of people work very hard behind the scenes to bring you Tech Support Alert. Sure, there are other web sites out there which offer similar claims, and I'd be the first to admit that some of them are very good indeed. But on the internet, not everything is as good as it seems at first glance.
One of the things we pride ourselves on at Gizmo's is that all the products and sites that we recommend have been tried and tested. Sure, we make the occasional mistake, but in general we won't recommend something that we don't think you should be using. For example, one of the recommendations that came in to my mailbox the other day was for a site which "leaves your site waaay behind". Really? Could there really be something out there that offers better tips than this one? If so, I was fully prepared to recommend it to you.
So I checked it out. And 2 of the featured items on the front page caught my attention. One was a way to activate a pirated copy of Adobe software without having to pay for it. The other was for an interesting IE9 add-in. Interesting, that is, until I read somewhere that various people were having problems with it and that you are recommended to set a System Restore point before trying it.
I think you get my point!
Anyway, back to the tried-and-tested recommendations, and this one seems rather good. ASAP-Utilities is a commercial add-on for Excel. It makes it easier to find and use formulas, sort text, format your data, and so on. As you can see from the screen shot below, it seamlessly adds itself to the menu or ribbon, and there are loads of useful facilities built in. For commercial use, the program costs $49. But for home, student and charity users, it's free.
If you want to try it, head over to www.asap-utilities.com. It runs on all versions of Excel from 2000 onwards, including 2010, but is 32-bit only. The download is a reasonable 7 MB.
My thanks to reader Shiva17 for telling me about this Hot Find.
