Is there a best free Calendar for Android e.g. something that would sync with Outlook 2007's Calendar on my Windows 7 laptop?

The best free ebook reader for Android is Aldiko - I've tried them all and this is the only one that handles Adobe DRM, renders accented Greek and Hebrew with the default font, and can handle a 56Mb epub file.

What, no Hearthstone? Finally available on Android phones as well...

Thanks Jojo Yee great post

Jojo, would be good to add file transfer apps like Xender, Superbeam, or Shareit, which use wifi direct to transfer files at a really fast speed. Did not know about these until recently, and people should know about it. Maybe cover one of these in an app of the week article? Also cover backup software for contacts, sms, etc, like SMS Backup and Restore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRe... or Mobile Backup III: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobilehome.backup&hl=en
Thanks Anupam. Will look into the apps you've suggested. Update: SHAREit has now been added to the list.

I've been using a very lightweight but still great file manager called Simple Explorer. It has material design, root capabilities, 100% free, and open-source.
You won't find it on the PlayStore, though. If you want to check it out, you must go to the official XDA thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330864

I use Battery Doctor (Battery Saver) by Cheetah Mobile. It seems pretty good.
I also use Cheetah Mobile antivirus (CM Security) and Clean Master.
They seem to have good apps.

Two comments:

1. The ZArchiver icon has changed to a new one, update it please.

2. I would like to recommend a very small file manager called 'Fo File Manager' https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seazon.fo It's a 330Kb download and shows the file attributes of any APK files you have, including the minimum version required. It also displays image files while showing their width and height. No ads, light and fast even on my old 800mhz phone running android 2.3.6.

Many thanks for your kind comments Rickybobby. The ZArchiver app icon has now been updated.

Hello,

I am trying to fix an issue with a Sony Tablet S

Fortunately it has been rooted as I need to recover some deleted files from it.

My friends partner decided to 'play' with it.

Can you recommend a Freeware program to recover photos, contacts, messages, videos etc?

There are paid versions but I would rather not fork out any cash :-)

Regards,

Paul

I would like to recommend a program. I used to use Airdroid to transfer my books to my tablet/phone - that is until I found Wifi Transfer -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififilet...
It is much easer to use thatn Airdroid.

I recently bought a Nexus 7.... I've never been crazy about the ipad and its dependence on itunes for any movies... also the ridicuously high price for an ipad here in Australia... $350 to $750 depending on the size.

Very happy so far with the Nexus 7 but I don't seem to be able to find "Adobe Flash Player" for it.
....apparently discontinued for the latest Android.

Do any of you have an alternative replacement for it ?

Thanks for your prompt advice Jojo.... I'll give it a go !

Just downloaded an archived version of Adobe Flash but after reading a little more on various forums, I've decided to hold back on installing until I can be sure that it wont stuff up Nexus 7.

I have the latest version of Android which I believe is KitKat.... too many comments advising against making Flash work with it.

The only other advice I've found is to use the Dolphin Browser but I'm reluctant to part with Chrome.

In the meantime, I'll do a little more homework on the subject.

I finally downloaded and installed the Dolphin browser and a "hacked-for- kitkat" version of Adobe Flash Player.

It's working like a charm on my Nexus 7 and I'm starting to actually like the "Dolphin" browser. Not as as slick as Chrome but I sure do like the easy access to bookmarks simply by swiping left to right !

360 Mobile Security is a joy to use, and it includes a very convenient Flashlight and Cache Cleaner which work very well. Maybe worth mentioning the program under these categories too?

I would recommend the app called aCalendar. It shows text in the month view on a phone better than Calendar pad does. I have used it for several months and it has always been reliable.
Thanks for this site. I have used it a lot.

A good suggestion Mikezzz. aCalendar has now been added to this list.
Thanks for the info boygnius. The link has now been updated.

many thanks for all involved in the website - it's been a lifesaver for finding good freeware and now it's come in handy again as I get onto android (late, admittedly).

I've built up a good list of apps to add to my new device, but I did notice you're missing one important category - kid's education!

Most people seem to get tablets for kid's educational purposes, and a quick browse on Google Play indicates many many different apps for maths, language and other skills.

We're looking for good apps for kids from 3-6, so if you or others can recommend any particularly good educational apps for them it would be much appreciated.

Highly recommend the game for Android called 'Bottle Crash'
Have had the app on my Note 2 for 3 months, with no problems
The best thing about this game is that the advertisements are not obvious
Many bottles flying up on the screen, and you throw ninja weapons.
Watch out for the bombs that are also thrown in front of you
Highly recommended as a test of concentration
I have no affiliation with this game
