Avast Free Antivirus is light on the system with a modern and clean user interface. It has very good protection rates, and includes many different protection shields, which are used to scan files on your device, warn you of any suspicious apps, block web attacks and unsafe downloads, block dangerous email attachments, and protect your files and folders from ransomware.
The software provides you with a quick and smart scan on your device, with other specialized scans available, which include a deep scan from top to bottom, a targeted scan and a boot-time scan. Detected threats can be quarantined and safely locked away. As a bonus, it also includes a Wi-Fi inspector to scan for vulnerabilities on your network.
However, do note that the free version does not include an advanced firewall to hide your device, a sandbox and other premium features to prevent hacker attacks and stop webcam spying.
After installation of the app, it runs the first scan of your device and identifies any threats it finds, but to fix advanced issues, Avast requires an upgrade to the paid-for premium version.
Besides the desktop version for Windows and macOS, Avast also has mobile versions offering a varying set of protection tools for Android and iOS. Having achieved more than 100 million installs from the Play Store, the Android version is supported by ads and provides additional modules such as a RAM booster, a junk cleaner, a photo vault, hack alerts, and a VPN for online privacy.
