Video tutorial: The NEW Google Interface - How to Use it

Summary of contents

Here's the information you need to participate in BETA testing of the new Google!

1. Go to Google.com

2. Once it loads, enter this code into your web browser's URL address field [NO SPACES]:

javascript:void(document.cookie="PREF=ID =20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=4bf292d46faad806:TM= 1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53ZueX fZG;path=/; domain=.google.com");

There shouldn't be any http://google.com in front of that. Just that code.

3. Hit enter

4. Reload or open a new Google.com page and you will have access to the new user interface.

To disable: Enter the script again.

It doesn't work anymore, simply the code doesn't work

I used it once when I turned on Private Browsing in internet explorer, I have tried millions of times to get it back but it wouldn't work...

By the way they changed the blue buttons to grey and improved the logo

definitely works. those who failed, follow the directions and go through and delete any blank spaces in the address bar, hit enter and reload. works for IE, Chrome and Firefox

If you can't get this to work, note that the only thing that this changes is the look of the interface.

The options along the left side of the new interface are not new like the video reports. They are already available on the current one.

On the left of the current search report bar (the same bar where the number of results found and time taken is shown on the right) just click the show options link or button with the little plus sign. (See image below.)

show options button

I believe this is available to everyone, no matter what country your in!

It did not work for me using the code here (even after trying deleting spaces), but it did work when I got the code from the Gizmodo article (you do not have to change that one at all).

I guess the page here would not show the code properly without adding in the spaces.

I did have to leave the Google page to another Google page and come back to see the change.

It was fast.

Hmm... so the main new features seem to be

- it may shave 0.1s off the time taken to find results. Given the delay inherent in getting the results from Google to your computer, that's kind of unimpressively irrelevant.

- there is a menu on the left-hand side that duplicates most (but not all) of the menu across the top, and adds "Blogs". So they've made the interface more complicated, not more usable.

- the "timeframe" filters (Past hour, Past 24 hours, etc). These are actually a really good idea. Shame the chap on the video didn't mention them.

You should delete all spaces in the code EXCEPT the one before "domain":
javascript:void...path=/; domain=.google.com");

doesn't work for me.

Same here. Only works on the U.S. google.com

Doesn't work on the Australian google.com.au

I tried it several times in Firefox 3.5 and there is no difference in Google.com webpage. Seems the optoon does not work on Google.ca only Google.com. Had to tell Google search page to go to Google.com then it worked.

What's the point of all of this. I typed in google Android in my Firefox browser and it displayed 'Android' with 74.500.000 results in 0.29 sec. the first time, the second time it loaded in 0.08 sec.
