Hardware problems

Is it safe to remove all those downloaded Windows patches

SW?  HW?   ????
Sorry if this is in the wrong place.  Just saw a post to  here from GAOTDD where they were talking about registry cleaners.

Okay hard drive has filled up and win XP  took to option to add/remove programs.
Most of the stuff is the downloaded "service packs" and security patches.

Do I need all those sitting on the hard drive?  Is it safe to delete from Remove programs or will that actually uninstall them (which I'm thinking I not what I want to do)

TIA

LAPTOP HARD DRIVE ENCLOSURE

I have a Toshiba MK8032GSX/HDD2D32 80GB laptop hard drive that I want to put into an external enclosure in order to salvage it since my laptop messed up.  I bought a NEXXTECH enclosure in order to put it in but it seems that it doesn't fit.  I was wondering if anyone happens to know what kind of enclosure I should get to put my hard drive in.

Much Thanks..

CMOS Settings Wrong.

As I turn on my computer this new option appears stoping the boot process.

It warns me that the CMOS settings are wrong, for this I have two options, press F2 (or F3 I can't remember) for automatic setup or default setup, and F3 (or F2 I can't remember) to set it up myself.

I chose the latter and the blue (BIOS) menu appears. I choose CMOS settings config and pressed F3 again to automatically detect masters and slaves. I set the correct date and hour, save everything and boots again.

New Computer setup

I regularly use computers, but I only use failry basic features (e.g., word processing, browsing, etc.).  I have purchased a notebook computer as a Christmas gift for my daughter.  I would like to set it up for many years of good service to her.  I have already downloaded many of the security type applications recommended on Gizmo's site.  Before I start installing anything though, I want to know if there are more fundamental things I should do to set the computer up.  For example, I think I recall seeing some discussion of the benefit of partitioning your hard driv

For the last three days I am getting this message "Cannot copy 'filename': Path too deep" whan I copy any file to my USB pen drive from the PC.

I am running XP2 SP2 - 160 GB Seagate HDD, 1 GB RAM and the usual CD/DVD.

I have already tried th following:

1) Reformatted the USB drive (Transcend 2GB) as FAT32

2) I have switched using the USB ports on the PC

3) I have changed the USB Cable

4) I have copied files to the USB stick without problem from the office computer running WIN 2K.
