Darren,
You're right, even without sleep.

The pricing page (http://www.febooti.com/ordering/pricelist/automation-workshop/) says this:
=============
Automation Workshop is offered for home and commercial users. Home users can order Personal use license.
=============

The price for the "personal use" license is $169, so that's certainly not free.

Hi Rob

Looks great, but are you sure it's free for personal, non-commercial use? I'm unable to find that anywhere (I've been awake for 21 hours straight though, so it may just be my eyes are not working as they should!).

Hi, great article.

I have reached the final stage with no drama.

After using Comodo to check the registry as you have instructed the list remains even after clicking "hide safe results". A full list, greyed out, with all of the boxes ticked down the left hand side. What does this mean?

I am assuming i am over looking something simple.

On the other hand if it means i have passed all of the tests, and i have also ensured my mozilla is up to date and pop ups are blocked, why am i still getting pop ups/unders?

Just tried Sharex but prefer PicPic still. Pic does a better job of editing after capture and navigation and interface are easier to use. sharex does have a ton of features most of which I will never use making it a bit confusing. Do like the circle, triangle, diamond shape captures though but again don't use those often. Video capture is nice too but without the ability to add my own narration I must turn to other apps for that.

Like michaelbeijer, I was inspired to purchase an XYplorer lifetime license because the software is that good. Don, the developer, is intensely involved in the software's evolution, and highly receptive to his base. XYplorer users are a smart, savvy bunch, and the user forum is one of the most helpful software forums on the web.

In three years of use, I've barely scratched the surface of XYplorer's potential. For run-of-the-mill users such as myself, the basic features are terrific. But for those who enjoy tinkering, the software is infinitely configurable and capable of more neat tricks than you can shake a stick at.

To say that a file manager makes me happy is, I'll admit, a little weird, but there you go. XYplorer makes me happy!

If one browses this site, you will find that I have been the biggest advocate of XYPlorer, for a long time.
I have been known to stop people in the street, and tell them that it is the best in the known universe.

I still believe that, however I recently retried Explorer++ and I am liking that as well.
If they were sending me to Mars, and I was only allowed one File Manager, it would be XYPlorer.
However if you get into the habit of using portable File Managers (different folders for different categories), then ++ is a nice addition. If you leave the grid on (horizontal Lines), then even when 'tired' you can distinguish them from each other (I'll drink to that).

Rob
PS Not a fan of dual panes, but my sensei tells me to be tolerant of those with strange (old) habits.

I usually try out various file explorer software but I always come back to Xplorer2 Lite (www.zabkat.com) Its very fast, supports dual pane, and even the lite has many features. You will often see offers to get the pro version at very reduced cost if you wanted to upgrade. But even the free lite version really is more than sufficient for everyday use. Its rock solid, and fully documented.

I have tried Clover and BetterExplorer and while they are nice for basic stuff, XYplorer really is in a league of its own. Also, a file manager isn’t really a file manager unless it supports dual-pane mode. Tabs are cool , but not enough.

Re: Geert’s comment about XYplorer’s inability to browse zip/rar files as if they were just another directory: I don’t really mind as I just use WinRAR for that.

In the interest of full disclosure: I own a so-called ‘XYplorer Lifetime Licence’.

view
Try This Alternative File Manager And Explorer For Windows. It's Free. 8 months 1 week ago Geert

XYplorer is a good (two pane) file explorer with all the features you can imagine.
But...
I don't understand at all why the author does NOT want to add the feature to browse zip/rar files as if they were just another directory.
Something that Speedcommander, MultiCommander, FreeCommander, Total Commander,... do so conveniently.
For me, this is the main reason why I decided not to use XYplorer.

Best Free Registry Cleaner 8 months 1 week ago Remah Most of the "experts" have never bothered to test the benefits of registry cleaning. "Do registry cleaners give me any performance advantage???" Yes, but it's likely to be very small and there are better ways to improve the performance of your system. See Do we really need Windows registry cleaners? view
Best Free Registry Cleaner 8 months 1 week ago jorgeem1717

I do use Wise Registry Cleaner and have been for over a year. It's a very controversial topic if registry cleaners really provide any performance boost or do they simply remove registry errors. Do registry cleaners give me any performance advantage??? The answer is NO... you read correctly, NO. Unless you got infected with a virus and it wasn't cleaned-up correctly or a program wasn't uninstalled correctly where the registry cleaner can be useful there isn't any benefit in cleaning the registry. I would have to say that, unless you where infected and PC wasn't cleaned out correctly or an uninstall program failure, there really isn't a need to use a registry cleaner. To clean out the registry will give you a smaller registry but that, in itself, doesn't give you any performance advantage. The registry is just data-base so no need to remove anything. The only time corrections need to be made is when external programs force ill-advised changes. If you want to read a review on this subject in detail go to http://pcsupport.about.com/od/registry-cleaner/a/registry-cleaner-faq.htm and get a glimpse at what Tim Fisher from "About.com PC Support" has to say. You can also read what Microsoft has to say about cleaning your registry and if they provide a cleaning tool, just go HERE >>> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-networking/d... and see the article. I personally have used registry cleaners when I need to remove failed uninstalls or have been infected and had a "not so clean" virus removal but that's about it. When I have had to use a cleaner I use either CCleaner or Wise Registry Cleaner which have been proven to be very safe. One other thing, ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES... you never know would could happen even if you think you know what you are doing. Accidents do happen so always back-up.....

As I said I tried Windows 7 firewall control, then I took that off and tried Tinywall, which blocked my internet and I was not able to find out how to allow access.
So I've deleted them both and guess what? One of my browsers is unable to connect. I disabled windows firewall, still can't connect. So I set up a rule in Windows firewall allowing that program through. Still unable to connect.
I am at the limit of my technical know how so if I can't work out how to allow this program access I'll be forced to take 3 days to completely reinstall my machine.
I'd advise anyone with little knowledge to steer well clear of Windows 7 firewall control and Tinywall.

I note that the author of Clover, on his web site, says that he will not be making the program open-source because the code is "hastily written" and has "a lot of problems". For this reason, I would not recommend it. As for Better Explorer, my antivirus program blocks its website because of suspected malware. Again, I therefore don't recommend using it. view

Reclaim Some Of The Disk Space Which Windows Stole 8 months 1 week ago rob.schifreen A perfectly valid question. Let me give you one possible answer. At the place where I work, we run enterprise-level virtualized fault-tolerant servers. The hard disks are top-quality and very fast. Everything in the datacentre is mirrored, and also synced to another backup datacentre down the road. And the virtualization software steals 20% of everything for its own use. Which means that, although I can buy a terabyte of usable disk space for my home PC for around $100, our stuff at work is more like $5000. If I can save 3 GB of space on each of my 14 servers with 10 minutes of effort, that's a real saving. Add in the 400+ other servers that we have, and it becomes even more so. view

Windows 7 Firewall Control portable version needs some user account control permissions set before it can autorun at startup and work properly once started.
I don't pretend to even begin to understand the things you have to do to elevate it's permissions, and I've spent 2 hours trying.
So this is just a heads up, if like me you're not familiar with advanced techniques of permissions and user account control in Windows 7, give this programme a miss, it IS rocket science :)

All I want is something like this which allows me to allow/disallow anything from contacting/accessing through the internet, without having to go on some in depth learning curve about advanced windows scripting.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to listen.

I like EagleGet. better than DownloadNinja

view
Best Free Download Manager 8 months 1 week ago George.J Since the category 'Programs' has .exe defined inside that category, and you are trying to create a new category with the same file extension, it wouldn't work. You will have to delete the extension, '.exe' defined in Programs, so that only the new category 'Softwares' has that extension defined. Download Ninja is using graphical download indicators while downloading, which could be the reason of higher memory usage. EagleGet is good, but the 2.x series is still not stable, even though they've mentioned it stable. It still has a lot of bugs to be corrected, because of the numerous features they've implemented in the new version. view
Best Free Download Manager 8 months 1 week ago Realist

I am comparing DN to others. I have 4GB RAM which is more than enough.

I created a category Software and mentioned .exe files to download in a specified location.
Instead DN downloaded the file (CCleaner latest download) in 'Programs' category which is default.

I have tried EagleGet. It's much better. Low RAM uses, small setup size and ...pleasing to eyes.

view
Best Free Download Manager 8 months 1 week ago George.J Yes, Download Ninja is a little heavy on the system. But if you are having enough RAM on your system then it shouldn't be a problem. What's the new category you created, and what extensions did you define in it? view

Thanks for testing it.There seems to be a problem in the resume algorithm too.

Best Free Download Manager 8 months 1 week ago George.J The test results didn't come great. This seems to be a release that's been rushed. There are still bugs to be resolved and the download speed is not that great. We'll wait :( view
Best Free Antivirus Software 8 months 1 week ago MidnightCowboy I honestly wouldn't bother. After a bit more research I came up with these: MC - Site Manager. http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/security-software/327316-do-you-trust-you... http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/do-you-trust-your-antivirus.368257/ http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/tiranium-antivirus-tiranium-antiv... view

ShareX have too much settings because I wanted to give most customizability as possible to users. Because there is so many screen capture apps but none of them allow to use it how users want it to be. But having that much settings not big deal for many people because already default settings + changing "After capture tasks" enough for majority of people.

I forget to tell there is one more method which involving using "Watch folder" feature + browser extension for be able to capture web pages. How it gonna work is browser extension can capture full page and save it as image file and ShareX can watch that folder where this extension saving its images and automatically upload it. That way capturing long web pages is possible.

Another workaround: https://github.com/ShareX/ShareX/wiki/Capture-webpage-using-Firefox

Mainly default settings enough for majority of users, who want to just share screenshots using Imgur. So you can just press Ctrl + Printscreen and URL will be in your clipboard. And mainly you just need to change "After capture tasks" for be able to annotate image or disable uploading etc. I can't write full manual because my english not good enough. But if I'm online then you can quickly get support to any questions you have in IRC or you can use website contact form and mainly I answer them instantly if I'm online and available. I don't know what is ESP.

Best Free Antivirus Software 8 months 1 week ago Chiron As MidnightCowboy said, at this time it is not a good fit for this article. However, I will keep an eye on it and see if it continues to improve, including testing by independent testing agencies. Thanks. view

Thank you, Jaex for developing such wonderful app. I've tried out screen recording and it works just perfect to replace the scrolling capture. Good job!

I am never ever going to use Download Ninja.
First it's size was double that of FDM. 15 MB compared to 7 MB
Second it's a resource eating monster. It consumes 52 MB RAM while idle and 84 MB! while downloading.
I tried to create a new category but it saved the file in 'Programs' category on it's on.
Lousy software.

A New Release Of My Favourite FTP-Enabled Editor 8 months 1 week ago atomMan

PSPad has a major shortcoming in that it does not have a true column edit mode - this is a limitation of the edit control that is used

although i like PSPad for it simplicity and UI layout, it has not been the most stable editor in my experience, nor has RJ TextEd

for me, i'll stick with Notepad++ which uses the very capable and stable Scintilla edit control

also, most any capable code editor has an FTP client, whether it be native or through an extension
