Best Bargain Shareware
I like freeware, especially quality freeware. I like donationware, freeware's brother who (also) has bills to pay and humbly asks for help. Sometimes, though, what I'm after is a product where quality (which may simply be expanded usage privileges under the license agreement) takes precedence over a $0 price tag. Price IS an object of concern, but a modest price tag does not disqualify a candidate. Anything having to do with PC security is clearly in this domain (though currently I do use a free antivirus on my home computers). I'd love to see in techsupportalert software suggestions that mirror the Freeware lists, but with the Free restriction removed. Of course we all have different price sensitivities, but that can be handled by dividing the titles in each class into several categories and comparing items within each group, or listing them by price and assigning a rating, or assigning a composite 'best value' rating to each. Even if such ratings don't prove useful, providing brief mention of notable products that don't happen to be free would greatly expand the pool of titles available to visitors for their consideration.
We have noted your suggestion.
Right now we don't feel we have the resources to create or maintain such lists.
There are also ethical considerations.
Perhaps you would like to become a volunteer site category editor?
