Flowcharts . . .
Last Update: Fri, 05/23/2008 - 22:34 — derekcx
I used to have a copy of Smartdraw in a previous job. THis was great for drawing flow diagrams. Is there a simple (and I mean really simple) flow chart creator anywhere?
Maybe even as part of another app, like a mind map or something. I regularly have to sketch up some kind of diagram, and the quickest to get a first version is often draw by hand and scan: then if I often want to make it nicer for next time.

Hi,
I just want to say thanks a LOT for all the free flowchart software links, I was desperatly needing to draw some for my Uni Dissertation, and didn't want to pay money (as I don't have a lot). Thanks a mil!

I think XMIND is greatest free mindmap software.
It would be nice to have a new category on flowcharts (or Visio alternatives), lots of usefull apps in this page.
I have just tried OrgPlus 7 Express, which is free folowing instructions on http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/downloads/2171579/orgplus-sbe , and I must say it's very stable and light on resources (in comparison with Smartdraw or Visio 2007). The free version can only create charts with a maximum of 30 boxes. Overall I like it, but I think it's best for organizational charts rather than flowcharts.
Regards
Edraw free doesn't seem available anymore, I couldn't download it anywhere... from the remaining choices, I prefer Dia to Diagram Designer and Openoffice (a bit slow for diagramming).
Edraw MindMap 1.0 was removed from download, it's no longer available. Today I received an e-mail from developer, saying that
"We have found there is a big bug in the MindMap and fix it, we will release the Edraw Mindmap in our website in the future."
It's available again !
Edraw Max is available for free (TODAY ONLY) at http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
Today is Tuesday, 08/16/2008 - how could the above post have been made 3 days from now? (in the future) just wondering.
Check your date of post: It says 09/16/2008 not 08! So the post you refer was made not 3 days from now but almost a month ago.
whoops - nevermind

Try the Flowcharting tools in the draw part of OpenOffice. Very nice for the price!

Yes, considering it is completely free, and has buttons for flow charting that are labeled and as far as output files go, there is a pdf which I like
There is a free version of EDraw that I think you will find meets your needs.

While it says mind map its great multi purpose drawing program. I use it for flow diagrams and flow charts all the time :)

I checked out all the programs mentioned here, and decided on the free version of EDraw Mind Map. I've been using it now for a number of days. It's an excellent program, both in terms of features and ease of use, and I highly recommend it.
Thank you for listing it.

Thanks Andrew - but while it says it is free on the referring site, when you get there, it is $79.95. - Derek
Its easy to click the wrong link -be careful not to click the Google Ads but scroll down to the download link... :)

Peter thanks. I have tried Diagram designer. Will fill the bill.
If I had lots of money to spend, I'd use Smartdraw, but at $197US it is a bit dear for one small task.

Diagram Designer may work for you:
http://meesoft.logicnet.dk/
The free Open Office Draw is a credible choice.
http://www.openoffice.org/
http://www.edrawsoft.com/ is often used by pro's, but it's not free.
These two sites offer a wealth of info about mindmapping.

Yup. Peter's suggestion re Diagram Designer is good. Been using it for some time. Simplicity is the key. Also makes it a tad limited, but my users like it. Because any infant can learn to use it. ;-)
