Internet Connection , Computer Powers down

Hi  Techies , any help would be appreciated. I was working on this ladies computer, usual viruses , spyware ect. Has Xp home cleaned at my shop. Usual smit-fraud ect. My dsl was down so I couldn't test her internet, but I did install the new internet explorer 7.0

when she get's it at her house and turns on fine.

When she connects the cox cable modem ..fine.

When she tries to connect to the internet..Computer powers down.

Any help appreciated. She's a REAL b.
