Security 101 email violation, Send email to Poster on reply, Sister site update, Description example Improvement.

This post move here from my first posting for this is the proper Forum Area

- Gizmo, Cannot edit my submitted post a second ago. I guess I should preview prior to submit. Other forums allow and I am spoiled with that method of editing and knew after the fact. Sorry. If u cannot change the protocol, can u mention so all users use preview and then submit.-- Above PROBLEM might be FIXED for I can edit my post  --
- Confirmation email, do not send password for I know when I register. If I forgot, then send from forget pswd option and do dah. Standard 101 security protocol need to be use at this site. tx
- When a user receive a reply, it would nice if that user receive a email informing them of reply to a post. Std forum protocol. tx
- Can we state installation description more convincing rather than 'Having trouble getting that nifty freeware program to work? Got it installed and don't know how to use it? Then ask here'. Had to debate with myself on where to post my article for its not related to usage. Topic header related to installation and your description sentence have TWO examples related only to usage and thus tempted to find that third choice or other. Nice if u can make example description fit on one line.

-Eventually, we will have forum rules/sticky/must read. When we do, I would like to see descriptive example remove or shorten to fit on one line. For example:I want a freeware program that ...Searched this site and not found the program you want? Then ask here. Impreovement suggestion Freeware (program)want and not found on this site. Post here.  What I am trying to do is condense the info and ideally have the Title brief and descriptive enought not to warrant an example.  Basically more thought in title or description. I already complain above about install and usage and u provide 2 usage examples.

- For those reading, u can edit a comment at any time even after posting that comment.

- Disk imaging, item 95, in Tech... alert recomend Norton Ghost but your site provided highly negative review. Mention to Chris that I bought Norton Ghost base on item 95. He was sympathetic and mention this site in his email. He also mention sister site should make a reference to this site especially when I refuse to install Norton Ghost base on negative review.

Hi Gizmo, Congrats to your wiki site and sorry for constructive criticism. I would be surprise if u remember me especially when I believe u get lots of email.

Thanks for the comments scrt.

A lot of the issues you raise will be sorted out in the coming period.

Just moving the site to a CMS been a big job which I have had to do by myself in between writing the newsletter. But now it's done and working so I can now address the finer points

Current top priorities are:

1. Move remaining articles from the old site to the new and eliminate the remaining 404s
2. Complete site documentation for user contributed content
3. Use vBulletin for forums not the standard CMS forum
4. Sort out the site logo and theme
5. Integrate site login with premium newsletter login.

and the list goes on and on. But I'll get there, that's for sure. It will just take time.

The good news is the new CMS site seems to be really liked by users. That's a great start.

The other good news is the work of the 50 or so volunteer editors and thousands of user contributions is really starting to be reflected in the quality of the reviews on the site and it will only get better.

The aspiration is clear: to make this this site the number one resource on the web for guidance on selecting the best freeware. As the site slogan says "A sort of Wikipedia for freeware" :>)
