There is a very thin line dividing an e-book reader and pdf-reader. While, the pdf reader just needs to read pdf's, an e-book reader is expected to optimize the process of reading an e-book in your computer. Desired characterisitcs are :

Hello guys,
I am the new category editor for this. I have right now installed and am testing : Sony e-book reader, Mobipocket reader, ybook, Tom's reader, ICE and others. After a testing gap of one week , I'll post the final review .
New and full review coming up in a while
try mobipocket

I would like to see another software catelog named OCR free softwares.
The pro version of eReader is now free; this works with .pdb files and there are versions for Palm, Windows, Mac, PocketPC, and apparently iPhone:

On Windows, I agree with the recommendation for yBook, which opens .txt, .pdb, .rtf and .htm files, and tries to format to look like a paperback book.
I tried Mobipocket, but it uses a proprietary version of .prc files, and doesn't handle other PalmDoc files well - I ended up ditching it.
Plucker (http://www.plkr.org/) is freeware for the Palm/PocketPC, and includes 'distillers' to convert .htm or .txt files into a compressed .pdb format for reading on the PDA. I tried this, but prefer iSilo, which isn't freeware but is more flexible. It isn't clear that Plucker is still being maintained.

Tom's eTxtReader

ICE Book Reader - http://www.ice-graphics.com/ICEReader/IndexE.html
(russian version is free)
I've gone through every free e-reader available (that I know of) and found all of them lacking with the exception of FBReader. A really nice and very customizable little program. It has no nags, is simple to use and is updated fairly regularly. One negative is that it doesn't read PDFs though they are working on it. An improvement over yBook IMO.

Well, the first contribution looks interesting anyway...
So -- as an old git -- please tell me: do these widgets convert your PDF into an audio book or what? If not, what's the point?
Yeah, PDFs are grim to read onscreen, but you could always print it or convert it to Word or something??

They have a very nice ebookreader for many platforms. There is even a non-freeware ebook converter.
Enjoy!
I agree with Ybook. (http://www.spacejock.com/yBook.html)
Doesn't have all your requirements but makes it much more relaxing to read from a screen.
Changes wide blocks of text to dual page paperback look and feel, even the color of the paper!
try mobipocket www.mobipocket.com
aye ...
It good but importing is a pain
Wrong, my dear. I am sorry I am so late into this conversation, but Mobipocket is quite happy with text files.
I second that...
