New Poll: Which review format do you like best?

We are testing out a new review format. Before we adopt it, we'd really like to know what  you think.

The current format reads like an article that discusses the various software products then lists all product details at the end

The new format reads more like a list with details of each product listed immediately after each product is discussed. It also makes much more extensive use of graphics to convey important information.

Each format has its pros and cons. The current format makes for a more interesting read while the new format allows you to find what you want more quickly.

Listed below are two reviews in each format.  Please read one or more in each format and let us know which you prefer by posting a comment below. We'd love to hear what you think.

Thanks

as you like it....thx

I like the new format but would ask that you retain the "old" review summary at the top of the page which is the most read part of each page.

I like the new format because it places the download links right next to the descriptions of the product. I think the summary descriptions should be at the very top of the section.

Thank you for a wonderful resource.

I prefer the old format:
Written as an informative article, the comparaison of products is easily understandable.

Hi Gizmo, thanks for the great service !

I'm in favor of the new style

I like old format better, it's more like reading a friend's letter, plus it leaves you more flexibility.
Why not put a link to the bottom list in the product name (and put the link to the bigger image on the small one)?

To make it short I agree 100% with: #29 Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 11/04/2008 - 04:27.

Anyway thank you so much for this great job you're doing
I'll contribute ASAP

new is best

The new format is really great. I am a long time reader and i definitely think the new format is better. With the old format I used to get irritated as i didn't get the website of the product and had to scroll all the way down, especially if i had already made the choice i wanted. But as all of your readers will definitely agree old or new we will still come back.

I liked the old, but I really like the new format better.

Gizmo, you provide an awesome service. Thanks much.

I prefer the new format - it seems cleaner. One option I would like to see is the amount of system resources used by each program - may be too much to ask but would help make decisions easier.

JimC

may i just ask as to which format is the site going to use, the old or the new? or is it too early to ask?

I like the new format.

new one but keep the details at the bottom

Old one is best for me

I think the suggestions as made in comment #21 would seem to give us users the best of both worlds.

Lets adopt that and incorporate the good ideas of both old and new in a single format which would rock...Just like this site.

Thanks heaps from one of your followers, for all the great work you guys put in, which enables us plebs to have a greater knowledge and understanding of the electronic wizardry that we need and use daily.

old format all the way

Old format please!
Great site - no matter what!
Thanks for all the advice and help over the years.

Old, New, no old, well maybe not, new. Do what you want, I like both and I appreciate all the work you do for us lazy people.

Thanks a bunch.

Gene

New format all the way! :)

New format, plse

I much prefer the old format. I prefer the text presentation of the information about the downloads in the old format, and the extra information - for instance, the mention of the Kaspersky removal tool in the old format review of anti-virus programmes. Thanks for a great site.

I enjoy the block format easier for separating subsets of information. Add a few blinking LED's and I will be heaven. Tks for a great, great site.

new format for sure !! but for the others, like google maybe add a link called Gizmo Classic ? so users could choose ?

Definitely the new.

Old format please. I am pretty much a middle aged novice (but have learnt loads from your site over the years) and recently had a computer made for me. Unfortunately the operating system put into it was XP Prof X64 bits. Your old format clearly & easily allowed me to find compatible software - eventually I discovered the page dedicated to X64.....
Also as said before, the old format clearly presented the best recommendation then stated that the next best options were.
By the way, congratulations on a fine site. I recently recommended you to The Independent newspaper for inclusion in their list of 100 Really useful web sites. You deserve it because you are!

Thank you for promoting our site.
You'll notice that Jack Schofield in the "Guardian" often refers to us, and considers we're "normally reliable".

I like the new layout

Assuming a dedicated audience of interested individuals, the new format is superior; however, if you have a disproportionate number of casual browsers, it may increase your bounce rate.

New format hands down.

If it's between the two, I like the old format, though as suggested by Anonymous on Tues, 11/04/2008, blending of the two styles is of merit.
