Use this thread to discuss FileHippo's Update Checker (UDC) mentioned in the Best Free Software Update Monitor article.

I would like to mention that Update Checker since it exists always is in beta version and they don't develop it very fast.

In my opinion filehippo.com miss 2 important programs:
1. Revo Uninstaller
2. doPDF
and it doesn't detect in my computer next ones:
1. NOD32 AntiVirus
2. XnView
3. OpenOffice.org
4. Feedreader
5. foobar2000

Of those I have Revo Uninstaller and OpenOffice.org installed and so cannot comment on those detection rates. However, UDC does detect "OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 Final" on my system. I am surprised to hear that foobar2000, FeedReader and XnView are not detected, as they do appear on the FileHippo website. Revo and doPDF do not appear on the website and FileHippo keeps the trial version of NOD32 (is there a difference to the full version?).

Will any other UDC users please comment on the detection if they use these software.

I uninstalled OpenOffice.org and installed it again (from filehippo.com) and now Update Checker detects it. I think sometimes it is important download source.
I am using NOD32 Anti-Virus full version and Update Checker doesn't detect it. I don't thin there is difference.

Update Checker doesn't recognize some programs in my computer. Does anybody has the same problem with these programs:
Adobe Reader
DirectX
ESET Nod32
FastStone Image Viewer
Java Runtime Environment
GIMP ?

On my PC it detects Adobe Reader 9.1 and the JRE 1.6.0.12. It did not detect The GIMP and I do not have Nod32, nor FastStone Image Viewer.

I have tried to reinstall Adobe Reader and Java Runtime Environment but I have still problems. Do you use some special way to detect these two programs ?
Do you know how to setup Update Checker in automatic updates mode ? I have tried with Scheduler Task but it doesn't seem working.

I do not use a special way of detecting these software. Do you use non-English versions that do not appear on FileHippo perhaps?

I am only aware of being able to start UDC when Windows starts. I was able to use the Task Scheduler to start UDC at a specified time. I don't know why this would not work for you.

I use English versions of these programs (downloaded from filehippo).
I have Update Checker in Scheduler Task (running every 30 minutes) but I think it is just run without checking for updates (hippo eyes should be opened in this time). It is run all the time and every 30 minutes doing something but I think it is nothing.
