Default Windows 7-Graphics card requirements

Hi,

I did have a few problems with my graphics card when I upgraded to Windows 7. A simple hardware acceleration did not work (refer thread for screenshots: Windows 7 - Security Software).

After more snooping with AIDA64, this is the info about my embedded graphics card:

It says "VIA P4M890". On further snooping, I found out that this does not support Windows 7. (Thread here:

http://www.viaarena.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42019

I'm assuming that it does not support both 32 and 64 bit....

Therefore, If I do need Windows 7 to work properly, then I need to get a new graphics card. Correct? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Beyond just the chipset, the problem is the actual integrated gpu (video adapter) appears to be usupported. (VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP )

Never-the-less it appears that some have been able to get the XP driver to work. See here. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...nichrome-vista You can get the latest xp driver here http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp

It is possible one of the other drivers for windows 7 might work but you have to force windows to accept it and do a manual install.

Still with only 64 meg of shared on board memory your best bet would be to get graphics card anyway. Especially if you want to play 3d games. I believe your MB supports PCI or PCI-E so verify that, and make sure you don't get an agp card. I don't know where you are located in the world, but in verious places on line you can pick up some lower end video cards for just a few bucks/quid.

@ Ritho: A force install was useless (when I tried it last week) since Windows 7 64 bit does not allow you to accept unsigned drivers...Tried disabling that functionality and well, it still did not work.

Best option is to buy a new graphics card. Due to financial constraints, nothing doing right now....

Thank you!

Update: I tried installing Windows 7 32 bit and then installed my graphics card drivers (XP) and well it worked (should have tried this out a long time ago). Though aero is not there, I can live without it. Hardware acceleration is fine and I'm able to play my usual set of games that I played in XP ....

so far so good...could someone please point me out to a nice tutorial on configuring Windows 7 firewall. Thank you!
