Google officially unveils its long awaited operating system: Chrome OS, while Chrome Web Store is made available now.

"Chrome is nothing but the web. What if you’re not connected to the Internet? Users can still continue to be productive in apps, for example, Google Docs. Changes are saved and synced as soon as connectivity is reached again."

Made by Acer who are not exactly known for their reliability (guaranteed for 12 months so long as you don't switch it on ) but maybe Google will have some input into quality control.

I am not very excited about Chrome OS. The apps that will run on it are far too spxxxx in my opinion. I don't see any major appeal to it over running a mobile computer with a light version of linux on it.

Neither do I. Wouldn't Google Android have a brighter future than Google Chrome OS?

Android can be always on, either running on a mobile or a tablet, with no need to startup or shut down each time you use it. It runs resident apps as well as web apps. Sumsung's 7" Galaxy Tab running on Android, though a bit pricey, has sold 1 million units within a short period of time after launch this year. Can Chrome OS have that kind of appeal?

Same here, Chrome OS doesn't appeal much to me.

(PS. I see the censor has mindlessly kicked in again. Is there any way to add exceptions to it? I'm sure xxxxne Wenger the xxxxnal football team manager would appreciate it for one. )

I'd like to see them try. Hyperlinks won't work upside down. Except for down under in Australia maybe.
