Following a Microsoft recommended quadruple update, my 'swiss-watch' like XP Medi Center machine developed problems. Windows Explorer hangs, my three burner programs also hang (I think there'a connection), and the boot times went from 1:15 to more than 5 minutes.
My questions is this: Advanced System Care...I ran it the other day. It found 1600 plus problems in the registry, and 6370 problems elsewhere on the computer. Of course, it fixed them all. But are those numbers realistic? Can they be believed? Can a computer with that many problems still boot up and run, which mine does? FWIW, the machine does NOT run any better now than before the fix. No harm, but no help, either. I've run sfc /scannow twice, hoping it would fix Windows Explorer and the boot time. It didn't fix anything. I picked up a tip on the Internet re: fixing Explorer: Ctrl-Alt-Delete to bring up task manager, go to processes, then explorer.exe, delete it, then go to Applications, new, and type in explorer.exe, OK. The guy who offered the tip specified it worked on his Vista machine. Mine is XP, but it looked like it might work anyway. It didn't. No change. I'll keep looking for a solution... But I really wonder about the accuracy of the numbers provided by Advanced System Care. PS: the guys here in this forum have tried to help, and I really appreciate it. |

Hi tboneman2 ... you already have a thread running in the same forum here:
Microsoft-caused problems on my XP machine The present thread is very much related to the thread which you had started before. There was no need to start another thread for the same. Starting multiple threads for the same problem isn't going to get any help... it will only make things difficult. So please stick to one thread. Did you read the replies in the other thread? Did you carry out system restore again? Did you try Windows Repair? If you read that thread, registry cleaners are not recommended. They may cause you more problems than they solve. Please post your replies in the original thread. This present thread will be either deleted, or merged with the original thread. Thanks.
