Virtual Desktop is completely different from XP Mode, which uses a Virtual Machine.

If you want to use XP on your Windows 7, you can follow this guide: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/11060...ons-and-vista/

Cant work

when i come to d point where i have to imposrt xp mode in vmware dere is no option to import

as said by matthew in comments
@Rock @Steve VMware Player will work fine on Windows 7 Home Premium, but not XP Mode. You’re free to use VMware player with your own OS disk, though. This is likely why you’re not seeing the Import XP Mode option, @Steve.

any oder way ?

Just download the linux iso image, then select it while creating a new virtual machine.

Player has all the basic features necessary for virtual machines, while Server include some more advanced features (including remote access). I think Vmware Player integrates better with Windows.
More details: Vmware Player, Vmware Server.

It's your choice, but I find Server's extra features unnecessary for me. Vmware Player is good enough and lighter. Just don't see the need to move to Server.

Yes you can, the virtualized xp is completely separate from your Windows 7 OS

Edit:
Oh yeah, you can backup your XP virtual machine by manually copying it somewhere else.
