This is quite difficult because there are so many types around.

In general, same as everything else, when you compress a "normal" solution into something smaller there's always a trade off. My Fuji Siemens lasted just over two years which I guess is par for the course unless you've got a top marque in a titanium shell

Heat seems to be the biggest problem, or at least it was when I had mine, this being a separate issue to the spontaneously combusting Sony batteries Fans too need servicing just like those in their desktop brothers and many techs, mine included, recommend replacing the inefficient types with a better system if it'll fit and the product is worth the extra expense. That's about the limit of my knowledge other than the usual stuff like not leaving one inside a car or on top of something like a fridge for long periods where it's gonna get vibrated to death
