Default Realtek Drivers/Sound Window

I encountered a strange problem today (no please! )

I was drifting away nicely to La Quinta Estacion (Recuerdame) when suddenly my Realtek sound window opened asking which device I had just plugged in? The sound itself dropped out for a split second and then carried on playing. Having plugged nothing in I canceled the window only for it to reappear a short time later. I searched around and found this to be not an uncommon problem which some had tried to solve by reinstalling and/or updating their Realtek drivers with various degrees of success and failure. I've hardly ever opened my Realtek settings but I chanced on a simple fix which might save similar sufferers from a fate worse than silence

Just open your Realtek Sound Manager via Control Panel/Sounds (if you don't have the icon in your tray) and go to the panel settings. Tick "Disable front panel jack detection" and un-tick "Enable auto popup dialog when a device has been plugged in".

Worked for me on XPSP3 and hopefully will do for you if you need it.
