This was reported today by the BBC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8388253.stm This sequence of events is not entirely new overall but I bet W7 users did not expect this vulnerability to be imported into the new OS

Thanks for this link from the Prevx guys which is one of the possible fixes available.
Just in case people are not reading the whole article, although this is an update related issue it's still only triggered mainly after using your security program to remove malware. There's no suggestion that just merely accepting the Windows update will make you any more vulnerable than normal (LOL)

Hi,
Thanks for the read, MidnightCowboy. There was also an article at Lifehacker's yesterday, which was updated later in the day: http://lifehacker.com/5416106/recent...crosoft-update |

Thanks for this extra link. Of course it's difficult to be certain but Microsoft does have a history of denying responsibility for system problems caused by their own stuff
"Unlikely" is still a pretty open ended word ![]() As these issues appear to also affect users of other security software and not just Prevx, I would still be inclined to look in the home direction first. What's important though is that the issue gets fixed.

This whole black screen of death never existed.
PrevX has issued an "ooops, so sorry" statement retracting their previous reports. And Microsoft takes the hit for something they didn't do. They take enough hits for the things that they really have done. This is some very interesting reading on the whole thing: What the "Black screen of death" story says about tech journalism I'm no Microsoft fan boy (errrr, girl) but this sort of thing is utterly uncalled for. Prevx has gone on my "held in contempt for lack of ethics" list. BTW I've been following Ed Bott for years. And I bought the new Windows 7 book he co-wrote. And he lives in the same state I do. And he has no idea I exist on the planet so I can't claim any nefarious ties. His dog is awfully cute.
