Default Pinning Programs to Taskbar

One of the features I like in Windows 7 is to pin the programs into the taskbar with icons. When the pinned programs are running, they're highlighted in squares.

Hovering the highlighted icons, you will see previews of the running applications.

The good news is that this feature is now made available to XP and Vista users by running this small utility ViGlance, 275 KB.

Run the executable directly, or place it in the Startup folder for it to run when Windows starts.

I've tried it on XP without major issues so far. Has anyone tried it?

i followed the link and watched the promotional video.. what interested me is can i keep my taskbar? as it is and is it free? so il give it a go iv downloaded it.

But mainly is it that much better the object dock?? as object dock lets you preview tabs and can be moved anyware on the screen. even magnified on mouse over and hidden out of sight until mouseover also you could hide your task bar and use boject dock as your taskbar giving the same results as this ViGlance software.. But its size and proformance that counts right?

ViGlance is probably good when one is trying to get the same feel and experience when working on both XP and 7.

Your right in the fact that it probly feels like windows 7. With Viglance i liked it as it was small and didnt need to install. i like the little icons and the previews.
I would have kept it if the icons didnt keep disapearing and having to click on the background to make them re appear. (did you have this problem?)

then i found a link to SBAR which is basicly the exact same! But has many bugs in it.. i used the fix with it and it solved some problems but had others. before the fix it made my computer freeze and i had to restart

but i think these will be must haves once the bugs are all gone as they are both in Beta test state

So until then im just goning to use Object dock to give me a similar feel

I've not had this issue. The icons appear as usual. Fine for me and not yet try SBar.

I tried Object Dock and RocketDock. After sometime, the attraction fades. Basically I need two things. One is Quick Launch to run most frequently used programs one-click right away. Another is a program launcher to have all programs linked to it, with grouping, no space limit.

Win 7 introduces Superbar to replace Quick Launch. It combines the pinned program and the same running program into one icon, save taskbar's area and I like this idea. Right click on the icon has an option to pin/unpin or close all windows of the program at one go. ViGlance imitates well.

For the program launcher, now I use a toolbar to link to a folder containing all program shortcuts. Don't need another app to run. I found this very useful and did an article of How to Build a Program Launcher from the Taskbar. Give it a try.

i use object dock to dispaly 3 progams that i always use on the left of my screen then added a couple of seperatores to make running programs appear on the right of my screen. in the middle i added Launchy so that the programs i mostly use i right part of there names in and they appear..

But i do have programs that i don't often use and forget the names to, so i have to go into the start menu, so i added a start button to object dock and hide the task bar altogether unless i want to check the running background apps.

Im trying to get something like Viglance, but so i can change it to hover like objectdock rather then a taskbar. but groups together open progams like Viglance does. and then use a launch feature like you made or similar to lunchy. Im half way there i just don't have the gouping feature that Viglance does and don't think i can with objectdock... i dont think rocetdock does either il have to check.

i found something new to try. If you dont mind keeping the larger tabs on the task bar there is a program http://www.visualtasktips.com/ it allows you to see a preview of a minimized task without having to click on it. Unlike viglance it doeskin change your tabs into picture icons tho. but it a alternative
