Good news: It's available for download!

Not so good (obvious) news: It's still in early development stage, labeled as 'beta'.

Half good and bad news: The download file is in .tar.gz format.

Default Installing Google Chrome OS

Ran across this today - a little more than I want to mess with right now, but might be helpful to someone.

Dang, I've been looking forward to getting some kind of beta or public release soon, but thanks for the link warning of it being fake, Jojoyee.

I can say that, although it would be nice to have an OS for general use, I will still continue to use Windows just because it works fast enough for me and I play a lot of PC games. I'll definitely give Chrome OS it's few minutes of glory to see just how much Google is hyping it about.

Thanks a lot to Google for providing consumers with a better alternative that they now can look upto. Welcome Google Chrome OS !. Google does not seem to threat Microsoft but want to capture the OS market gradually, starting with, the Netbook Industry where it can leave its impact the most.

Google Chrome is linux based. It had better be prepared to compete with other linux distro's. Google does have the resources to make a stellar linux distro. Are they willing to go the extra mile? Or are they going to create a half baked linux distro designed to track every web search and user interest's for financial gain? Time will tell

Cheers

I agree. The one thing which sets all of the Linux distros apart is the people behind them, or 'community'. Google may well want to go down this road but the demands of shareholders will never let them. Growing your hair, putting on a funny hat and opening a forum doesn't make you Linux, it's much deeper than that. Google will discover this but the name will still attract a lot of takers just as Microsoft will with Windows 7.
