I tend to agree with midnightcowboy. Drivers are a tricky. Be careful and make sure you backup your drivers. I had a bad experience and because I had a backup up of my drivers I was able to recover. Check to see if there are issue's with your existing driver first then try to update from the manufactures site. I use drivermax as a way of backing up my drivers. I then check the manufactures site for the update and if necessary I only then update

Cheers

I have spent a lot of time fixing pc's with problems that have originated with driver updates. It still surprises me that almost nobody actually tries to find changelogs or to find out exactly why version 1.3 is "better" than 1.25

If it's not broken....

If you do happen to find a changelog - and they say the updates fix an incompatibility with users who have the keyboard using southern Mongolian code page, and they have added support for 200 inch thermal screens when playing windows Solitaire.

Quite often the driver updates aren't really important - it is just human behavior to believe they are missing out if everything isn't at the highest number.

(Of course nothing can match the joy when you have a problem with a particular game and you are reading the "Release Notes" for the newest drivers at the nVidia website - and your game, and the problem you are having - is finally fixed. Then you KNOW why you are upgrading the drivers).

Excellent advice, and relating to many general software updates as well. This is my own policy:
1] I read the changelog [If there isn't one available I don't bother]
2] I ask myself if the changes will give a significant benefit to either myself or my system [If not I don't bother]
3] If I decide the changes are worth having then I check the support forums for any update issues. [If there are any I don't bother]
4] If all of this is clear then I update from a trusted source, meaning the manufacturers own website, not "Doo-Dah Drivers Inc." from Mogadishu
