People keep asking and commenting in other places about "tweaking" XP. Regular followers of my various ramblings will know that I'm not a fan of such practices for two reasons.
1) The benefits are over exaggerated, especially regarding increases in system performance which many people are never going to notice 2) Many users attempting these practices do not have sufficient knowledge of Windows to make an informed decision about which services to disable or change which often results in system problems they are unable to rectify without outside help. I also appreciate that no matter what is said people will try, which is why I've tried to put together a package which is workable and also safe to implement. This configuration has in most part been set up for me by someone who spends their whole time working with Windows. I should stress that everyone's system is different, as are the requirements for the individual service components you need to run in it (auto updates for instance). That apart, what is shown below has worked faultlessly on my XP Pro SP3 system for more than a month now. Others will look at this and say you can do more, and everyone will still need to pay attention to their individual requirements. The object of this exercise though is to give you something to work with that in most cases will not result in system or operational errors. I'm also aware that this is an area where many users have their own ideas and preferences so comments about what I've shown would be very welcome.
