I can't understand why Panda Cloud is not listed yet as an option as it promises to be free even out of beta. This is the future of AV programs and even though it may or may not be best in breed at detection its still unique.
Why is Prevx free not considered as an option in the intrusion prevention catagory? This even in its cripled state is probably the best option to prevent spyware infection in the first place. Why isn't DriveSentry compared in the Anti Virus catagory where it belongs? Why isn't there a catagory for online malware scanners? My particular favourites are Eset, Ewido or Trojan scanner A2 and VirusTotal. Last edited by swalk; 28. May 2009 at 11:26 AM. |

Please check out these forum links; they will answer your first 2 questions:
Panda Cloudbased Free Antiviurs Prevx 3.0 In terms of your other questions, I believe you'd be better served by posting these questions in the appropriate forum. Do a forum search and you will most likely see that there's already been much discussion about most of your questions. If you have a suggestion for a new category of software, we certainly encourage you to do so.

This is one of the many comments in circulation from people with similar doubts to my own (underneath the article)
http://www.thetechherald.com/article...thing-to-cloud I personally don't believe that this is the "future" for AV solutions just because the vendor tells me so. When I see it at the top of an AV Comparatives test chart, then I'll believe it.

Just out of curiosity I downloaded the free version of Prevx into a PC that was reformatted yesterday.
Heavens above it was infected! ![]() Thankfully I was immediately offered the chance to "upgrade" to the paid version of Prevx so that I could remove all of these nasties before they ate my hard drive and burped on the leftovers. How could I resist? Quite easily actually, I used Virus Total instead and below are the results. Now of course I'm just waiting for someone to tell me that Prevx was right and all these others are wrong - no seriously! Well, my feelings towards this type of software are unrepeatable here. I don't doubt that the full version of Prevx is a highly capable product and I'm also aware that other software suffers from a rate of false positives too. That said, Avira and Avast don't try to sell you their commercial versions by using this kind of scare tactic. Imagine for a moment your average user with his program and Windows folder files still hidden for safety. How on Earth can someone like this (and there's a lot) upload the results to Virus Total for a second opinion, even if they're heard of it? I'm sorry, but if I can do without these scareware tactics then I can also do without the program, no matter how good it might be. ![]() http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/4...835-1243548584 http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/f...cc7-1243548899 http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c...cfe-1243549261

DriveSentry's AV component is too untested IMHO to be included in the AV category, and it's primarily a HIPS anyway. |
