Thumbs up Ipod Managers

First let me relate a recent happening...
My daughter who has a 5th Generation Ipod Classic,
which she populates via ITunes and my money
(I hate ITunes $$$).

Well the HDD of her laptop crashed so we got another laptop, downloaded ITunes and NO SYNC!!!

After researching this ITunes Bull$h..,
I found there are alternative Ipod Managers.

I tried 3 free Ipod Managers:
FroddlePod
YamiPod
SharePod

FroddlePod - Great features, but we were unable to use it. When connecting the Ipod it asked for the FWID.
More research, FW (firewire)ID can be found in the registry, but the HDD has crashed!!!

YamiPod - Great features, which again couldn't be used.
The Ipod for some reason wasn't recognized or compatible??

SharePod - Totally Awesome
Recognized the Ipod, listed all of her playlists and songs (over 500). It was very intuitive, within minutes we were able to copy a song to the computer from the Ipod and then copy a MP3 file from the computer to her Ipod which she then played.

The story gets better, but for this post SharePod was the undisputed champion (in our situation).

I could only report on the ones I tried, but as you can see there are many others.

The best thing is that my daughter's 30Gig Ipod is now ITunes Free no more paypal receipts $$$

Hey debtboy, thats a nice link. Thanks a lot. Its nice to see so many available choices.

And its good that you got a nice alternative to iTunes... I don't like iTunes too.... its so bloated.

Well, if you try out some more softwares like Floola do tell here .

Thanks again

Thanks Debtboy

Been wanting to get rid of Itunes for a long time. Sharepod seems to be the answer.

Cheers

If you have an ipod touch, you still need itunes (7 or later) installed to be able to use Sharepod.

Unforunately I have been unable to get Sharepod to work for me. It seems to crash every time I try uploading songs to my ipod.

Yours,
Beev

I also agree that SharePod is the best I have used. It has many features and many more coming. Others that I have used that were not as great as SharePod were:

iDump, YamiPod, Floola, Pod to PC, CopyTrans Manager, PodLift, Froddle Pod, Songbird, Banshee and EphPod.

SharePod is small, has settings available that can be changed, is updated and maintained regularly. The homepage offers a forum for feature requests and the author responds to the posts. From what I have read on the forums, many more features are in development.

SharePod is best at managing HUGE files..

Floola is simple and easy but does not work when you trying to transfer BIG Files.

Thought it might be worth resurrecting this old thread just to add an interesting article that I just came across on the subject. It's a couple of years out of date but refers to a number of apps still available covering Windows, Linux and Mac.

10-alternatives-to-itunes-for-managing-your-ipod

(May or may not be of use to someone - haven't had a chance to read through it all yet)
