Default Secunia PSI 2.0 Beta

Anyone trying this download it here.

Completely different GUI, looks and runs pretty slick. No problems with it - so far. But it shows IE8 as fully patched - can that be right?

Thanks for the link; my version of Secunia PSI v1.5.0.2 shows Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.x 8.0.6001.18702 as being patched!

Thing with this new version is that if you use it with the default settings, and run the scan, it shows IE8 [8.0.6001. 18702] as patched and up to date. But if you enable the Secure Browsing Page it then shows it as 'not secure for browsing' - and in settings it says the Secure Browsing Page is 'only recommended for advanced users', which I find odd because if you don't enable it it gives the impression that IE8 is safe.

I have several browsers installed on the machine and Secunia doesn't show any scan results for ChromePlus or Opera 11, although it does show Opera 10. It's a bit confusing.

Going to wait for PSI 2 to come out of beta before tring the new 'improved' version!
By then any aforementioned problems will hopefully be ironed out.

Have you seen the recent discussion regarding Secunia PSI (inc. Beta version) we had here?

Thanks for that, Sope. I knew I'd seen something about it on here before but hadn't read it all, thought it was about the older version.

@ torresmagnifico - I think you've got the right idea. This beta version is a bit buggy and I'm not as impressed with it as I was initially.

I've always appreciated the value of PSI having used it since the first version emerged. In that time though, I've found the program to be buggy on a number of occasions but have chosen to persevere with it for the benefits it offers. Sadly though, the fact that this latest sound bug has been around for some time, apparently across numerous versions, has been disappointing and off-putting. The developers are aware of the bug but it remains to be seen what level of priority, if any, they will attach to it.

I tried the new version, and the first thing i noticed was Winpatrol alerting me that a new service was installed (and a startup entry too, but this came with the older version too).
The UI is definately nicer, but i didn't find the program perform faster or more stable than before. Good news, it doesn't need the Flash Player Active X anymore to display the graphics.
The first time i run it, it detected 78 programs in my system, the second only 54. It couldn't find automatically the portable apps i have in my other partition, i had to go to settings and select both drives.
One thing i didn't like at all, is that they made it difficult to see the advanced UI. I had to read deya's post to find it.
About that thing with IE, it's always been there. Whenever i run Secunia in the past it showed IE as secure in the simple UI. But if you went to advanced it told you that IE is "unpatched, no vendor solution", meaning that it's actually insecure but you can't do anything about it.
And also, as deya says, Secunia does not detect yet the latest stable version of Chrome

Secunia PSI 2.0 is now available to download, here

It's set to automatically update some insecure and end of life programs by default in the set up so if you don't want it doing that make sure you uncheck the box during the install.

You can also select how you want the tray icon to show program change info during the install. There's also a link to a 'how to install' video on the page.

Thanks for the update deya.

I've just installed it on an XP SP3 computer.

Looks like the sound bug has finally been fixed in this release version.
Fantastic!

Sadly there are still a few bugs evident though, which I didn't notice in the beta version that I'd been running on the same machine.
There are also a few threads on the PSI forum discussing a number of bugs and problems, which I suppose is to be expected, but I think I'll hold off installing it on my Win7 x64 computer for the time being.
