Let me premise this post by saying that I work day-to-day at the pointy end of the PC support business with a Mobile Tecnology Support Business ( Nerds On Site); now that we have the credentials establised..
Of all the Freeware Disk Usage apps for Windows; Disktective [ http://www.disktective.com/ ] is IMHO the very best PLUS it's a zero installation app - so good for that Portable Apps USB drive. Its ability to give an overview of the Drive and then drill-down to ANY folder level and create reports is a winner. The Pie Charts created are easy to read and understand - It Just Works ! From the Manual's EULA : [http://www.disktective.com/online_manual/] "PROGRAM USAGE Disktective is Freeware for personal and coporate use. You can use it in a personal, corporate, govermnent or non-profit setting without any costs." |

McAfee Site Advisor gives this site a RED rating! I'm not sure that we should keep this post as it points to a red site/link.

SiteAdvisor will incorrectly flag some websites with a caution or warning. This happens because their crawler only actually visits websites in question occasionally, with the period between visits being up to a year. Once the SiteAdvisor crawler first visits a site and determines there is a problem, they do not go back for, as just mentioned, up to a year later. Thus sites that correct problems are still flagged to McAfee customers as "dangerous" sites, even though they are not. This long latency in following up to see if sites have been fixed can have the effect of destroying a website's credibility. In this sense, SiteAdvisor could be thought of as malware, particularly because McAfee makes no attempt to contact the affected site, nor do they provide a straightforward mechanism for correcting errors.
Perhaps I should also add I am totally unaffiliated with Disktective, have used the program for over 4 years and have never experienced any issues withs site or software... |

I agree its a great class of utility and I tried Disktective t but I like Spacemonger better. There is the older version still out as freeware http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spacemonger.html but It was one of these great free apps the I felt compelled to support since I used it so much so I've purchased the more recently released shareware version that has more features.
I really like the box visualization and zoom features better than diskective and it scans the drive MUCH faster!! Andy |

We are going to use the WOT system (Firefox addon from mywot.com) for checking sites. An announcement will be made about this soon by Gizmo, as far as I know. There is a set of guidelines for the main site, and one for the forum, being built.
The site mentioned is fine at WOT so it's OK to link here. We decided on WOT because it's a simple addon that can be turned on or off. The LinkExtend toolbar is maybe better in some ways but it would be hard to advise adding a toolbar, and it can't be turned off. There is also the fact that, as Rabbitok says, inefficient and poorly run rating sites will have a negative effect on the overall rating since LinkExtend combines all of them. The McAfee problem is well known. They simply don't have the staff to backup the application, the task is a lot bigger than it seems. Same for other Net-based services - the numbers are so vast. As far as we know, the people at WOT are on the case, so it's a different proposition - we hope. |

The problem with discounting McAfee site adviser is that our site can get a red from them for linking to red sites. This might well keep visitors who use McAffe (or both WOT and McAfee) from visiting our site.
In fact, the disktective site got its red for linking to red sites. McAfee shows green for the software, disktective, on its details page, but how many people will not look there and just avoid it. There is a green site, SnapFiles, for the download of disktective. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/disktective.html |
