Default Speeding up boot times

I no this subject always pops up and there are many answers to how to make you pc boot faster with registry hacks, program startup delayers, and even the old microsoft Boot Vis.

But not even looking for anything about speeding up boot time i found this program http://www.soluto.com/ It is in BETA but does its stuff and its free. I installed and tested it and it worked fine for me i had a boot time of 1.24 and it very simply sugested things to pause or delay in the boot process and after another quick reboot i got a speed of 1.16

very simple to use, i hope it stays free in the newer release's

this sounds interesting, a cloud based performance program O_o... first I've heard of this. If I was more into testing new products I'd try it :S but with a fresh image of windows xp, i'm running fine for now and don't want to go installing things to test and jeperdize current speed

I use Ubuntu 10.04 which I installed on standard Dell laptop. From Switch-on to live internet connection (wireless) is 45 secs inc. typing my p/w. No tweaks or similat needed. maybe give an Ubuntu install a try?

I am using Ubuntu as well. But that has nothing to do with this thread. I dual boot. Many if not most, Linux users do too, or they use Windows in a virtual machine. So speeding up Windows boot times is a good idea for dual users as well.

Hi Ritho,
The thread says "speeding up boot times" and not speeding up Windows boot times - that's why I offered my Ubuntu info.

OK. I'll give you that. Why don't we suggest xPUD too since it will boot in 10sec or so on most desktops?

Actually "companion" OSes are not a bad idea though. There are a lot of people who just boot up their computer to check their online email accounts, or Facebook, watch a video on Youtube etc. and that's it. Then they shut back down again. Boot in 10sec, click the Firefox icon, do your surfing, listen to music, watch a movie, shut down almost instantly, save yourself a ton of time waiting for Windows to boot each day. When you need more power, to play a Windows Game, to use MS office, or other Windows only software, boot Windows.

I agree - it's great that there's so much choice out there

I'm wondering what the OP is going to do with their extra 8 seconds?

There is a common expression: "Every second counts" so ....

8 seconds booting once per day = 56 seconds per week
56 seconds per week x 52 weeks = 2912 seconds
= 48 minutes per year = 480 minutes per decade
= 8 hours per decade .... one working day saved per decade.

8 seconds is really not much timed saved, but in some peoples cases it may save considerably more than that. Your boot time of 1.24 is actually really good already. I have worked on people's computers which took so long they would turn on the computer and go get a snack and a coffee and come back before it was don't with all of the Windows preliminaries. I timed a boot one time at about 6 min and some odd seconds. The problem there was mainly a startup program list the length of my leg. (I'm 6ft 3in tall)

I don't think the soluto will help much with cases like that unless they have a message that pops up and says, "Dude you have too many programs loading at startup. Your startup list is as long as Ritho's leg! For better startup time reduce it to at least his knee or ankle level."
