Default MJ Registry Watcher

Has anyone heard of or used MJ Registry Watcher? (http://www.jacobsm.com/mjsoft.htm#rgwtchr)

How about RegProt?

The author of MJ Registry Watcher recently posted on the review section of our website.

I'm curious where these 2 types of programs fit into a security setup? Can they replace a standard HIPS?

What are your thoughts about their usefulness?

I have not heard of MJ until your post, but there are a couple of threads on MJ at Wilders Security Forums.

This one was started by MJ (aka Graphic Equaliser). I was surprised to see this has been around since 2004. A good response from the regulars at Wilders:
Wilders: Registry Watcher

This one is a comparison of registry monitor applications (mostly of free ones) by hojtsy. It looks pretty comprehensive and MJ looks good in the comparison.

Both of those links are the ones that I read last night which led me to install MJ Registry Watcher.

However, my questions remain:

This is very much niche software but in essence it fits in how ever you want it to. Most registry protectors only monitor then prompt you to allow or block any changes. This has a facility for customized rules too so is more adaptable to specific setups. It's not really suitable to replace a full HIPS which will also monitor system and file processes.
