I just came across this today, Speccy, an advanced system information tool for your PC. It's from Piriform.
It's in beta at the moment but might be worth watching. A note from the website: "Please note this is a beta version of Speccy and should only be used by advanced users on test machines. We recommend you wait for a final release version before downloading." I downloaded the zip and ran it, it seems to work well. It give lots of information about your system, even the temperature. I think it will be worth having on a USB for gathering info from various machines. The Piriform web page is here It may be of use to some of you, once it's out of beta. deya |

Thanks for mentioning this. I saw the program on download sites recently, and also on some blogs, but I did not read enough to know that its from Piriform. Piriform have given us softwares like CCleaner, Recuva, Defraggler. So, I would definitely be ready for this software once it comes out of beta.

Hi,.. no, it's nowhere near as thorough as SIW as regards to the information it displays, SIW is far superior in that respect. Speccy displays the information in a more basic fashion but maybe that's what they're trying to achieve here. It's just a clean and simple GUI to give users who are maybe not as interested, or need to know, as much as the more technically minded user.
For example, last night I ran it on my daughter's laptop and she was quite impressed with it. If I run SIW on her laptop she glazes over, too much information for her. That's why I think something like Speccy would be useful because she would use it, especially the temperature feature. I think it would help her to understand just how hot laptops can get. Perhaps it will display a little more information when it's out of beta. But by looking at it now I think it's designed to give a more basic summary of information about your machine, although it does give a fair amount of detailed information as it is. I just thought it might be worth keeping an eye on, plus Piriform genarally produce some decent stuff. deya |

I have tried some of these system information software... and I would also agree that till now I have found SIW to be the best one. I have tried Belarc Advisor, FreshDiagnose, HWInfo32, PC Wizard, WinAudit. WinAudit puts out a lot of information, and can be used if one wants a thorough information of a system. SIW is the best though.

There are also other choices such as AIDA32, Spiceworks, etc. mentioned in Best Free System Information Utility.
