Hello. I have read the section on the best free 'Software Update Monitor' and I have a suggestion.
In the article, the Secunia PSI is included and rated rather correctly for the section. But I think that it is not really intended for as a software update monitor, but as a software update monitor for purely security reasons. I suggest that a new section be created for the same, as 'Best Free System Security Monitor' (or any name you think is proper). In such a category, Secunia PSI will surely get 5 stars I suppose. Other programs doing similar things can be tested also, like the Belarc Advisor and the like. What does the forum think?? I think Secunia PSI is not at all a Software Update Monitor, but an excellent freeware security monitor. Its performance is constantly improving with time. I recently ran a scan with it, and it showed me high security risk Adobe Flash Player 7.X and Microsoft MSXML dll files. I always keep my Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit system updated and this was a real surprise for me! Also, I never installed the Adobe Flash 7.X, I really wonder how it came. Anyways, both the files are now removed and Secunia PSI score is back to 100. Thank you so much! This is really a wonderful website and the best award for CleanSoft's Update Notifier is well deserved. |

While Secunia is a good security update monitor, I don't think it'll fit in that broad category. WinPatrol and Anvir Task Manager fits better imo.
As for the category itself.. I don't think it's necessary, especially with the overlap of freewares from other categories. |
