I see that you've apparently already posted a number of comments under:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best...le-cleaner.htm Jason is the editor and volunteer for that category. I would suggest that if you haven't already done so, that you email him directly. You can find his contact page at http://www.techsupportalert.com/user/29/contact. I have to assume that he is still active as the page was recently updated.

Cleaning files generated by instant messengers is being talked about. What files will FileCleaner delete, and from which folders? I would want to know.
What is meant by "Clear Pagefile"? What will that operation do?

jason posted earlier today in the editors forum so he's definitely "around"
![]() What I might do is speak to these guys direct to see how keen they are to stick around in here to answer questions. I'm thinking that maybe like Wilders have "official support forums" for various apps we could have the "official FileCleaner forum"? I don't know how good this thing is, I don't even like file and registry cleaners, but they have brought out a new freeware product and I feel we should at least support their efforts with it. I'll make contact and depending on the answer set up a dedicated thread for queries and stuff in "System".

We are cleaning the entries created when an user logs in a messenger application and we do not touch the application related files.
We also clean some of the registry entries which are created as part of user login. This will help you to wipe out the complete usage information of instant messenger. Clearing page file means, setting a value in registry to instruct the OS to clean pagefile.sys in every shut down. Last edited by filecleaner; 19. Jul 2009 at 02:38 PM. |

Thanks for the response filecleaner team, although it has come quite late.
I would like to tell, and I wrote this in the comment section, in Best Free File Cleaner review too... that after using FileCleaner, my messenger settings of MSN Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger, had changed, and I had lost many of my settings, that I had changed myself. So, FileCleaner is obviously doing things, which it should not... coz I do not want to change my settings back every time I use FileCleaner. Other system settings were changed too. I had lost my "Most Often Used" list, that comes just above the Start button, when it is clicked. Adding to that, the MFU was not getting populated. I had to make registry changes for the list to be able to populate. Settings of "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" had changed too. They had been reverted back, from what I had set them. I had to change them back again, to what they were previously. This is certainly not desirable, since I want my settings to be the same, even after using FileCleaner. Have these issues been addressed, in the latest version of FileCleaner? Its really positive to see, the changes in the changelog... they certainly do address the problems that were reported. But, I would like a feedback, if the above mentioned issues were addressed too. Only then, I would be interested in giving FileCleaner another try. You have to appreciate, that for using a product of such type, first of all you have to ensure that the product is safe, and it does not cause any harm to the user's system. That is the basic requirement. Other things come later. Thanks for your response, and for the changes that you incorporated based on user feedback. Its a positive sign . Good luck.

Yes. The MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger settings will be resetted as part of clean up.
We are completely cleaning the chat traces from a computer including who logged in. To do that we cleaned the Profile related files and Registry entries which are created by messengers as part of your login. If we accomplish your suggestions, we may end up in not cleaning the list of profiles who used the messengers that is predominantely stored in registry. But, to value your suggestion, we will incorporate an extra check box to opt-in or opt-out profile cleaning in our next version. (very soon) |
