Default Geohac Security Software for Windows

Hi everyone,

I've created a new page: http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/be...urity-software

I've included Gizmos freeware reviews. I would appreciate any feedback.

Nice clean layout, I like it.

You may want to add Norton DNS and Comodo Secure DNS to your list?

What's the latest score with Comodo DNS now? Are the new servers fully functional and anyone got some data about malware site protection levels compared to Norton?

It's difficult to find any reliable data which tests and compares the efficacy of the various free secure DNS services currently available with regard to blocking of malicious sites.

Open DNS appears to focus on blocking known phishing sites whereas Comodo and Norton claim to block a wider range of malicious sites or so it seems from the information given on the respective websites.

It seems to me that choosing between them comes down to personal preference as much as anything else?

Thanks Sope this is what I'm finding too, eg not very much. There is stuff on SnoozeTube comparing Comodo and Norton but how you can judge anything by just chucking a few URL's at it beats me.

Speed might also be an issue depending on the users localization. Here in Brazil, Comodo is a bit faster for me than Norton, but I still use Norton for lack of any compelling evidence in favour of Comodo. RIP ClearCloud

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, I was initially using ClearCloud but for a long time now I've been using Norton. I rarely see it actively block a website but that may just be down to my surfing habits (I rarely click on red WOT rated sites for example). For that matter, I can't remember the last time I saw a warning from Avast either!

I've also carried out a few DNS speed tests and from here in the UK there doesn't appear to be enough difference between them to worry about. While Norton continues to give me the impression that it's reliable (and remains free) I won't be switching.........unless something that's obviously better comes along.

Hi Sope,

I might add them in the future. Thanks for your suggestions.

Update:

- Removed ZoneAlarm Firewall
- Added Belarc Advisor
- Added BufferZone Pro
- Added Macrium Reflect
- Added HTTPS Everywhere

part of the thing i like with chrome/dragon browser is that you can set the dns custom to that browser so rest of computer is left alone.

I have chrome set to use norton dns, and dragon browser for comododns. I dont' see an advantage of one over another and did it mainly out of curiousity. But with those 2, I can set system to use openDNS so everything else is somewhat protected. Since surfing web is main way one comes in contact with adware/virus, using comodo/norton for that seemed like a good idea to me. Since OpenDNS is just slightly faster, not that I would notice 10th's of a second.. lol

for firefox where I can't customize DNS, I have M86 addon, I can't tell how it works different than the DNS scanners but meh, it all works and doesn't take any additional effort like having an AV that requires to be running/updates, M86 was just updated recently, by which i mean sometime since I first installed it months ago and since I decided to check for updates last week lol
