I was notified of this today in a email. Bufferzone has been extremely helpful in protecting his computer as he embarks on his fight to save the world (virtually)
Bufferzone is allot easier to setup and I can protect the settings with a password. I know Sandboxie provides the same protection but the 'free' version requires more user interface.

You can protect Sandboxie settings as well with Configure > Lock Configuration.

BufferZone 4.0 is now being rolled out to all users of R3. You can download it from their webpage if you do not want to wait for the phased distribution. An update notice will appear if you currently have R3, if you prefer to wait.

I have been waiting since Dec 15, 2011 for these guys to send the V4.0 update. I have never some across a phased roll-out that has taken this long. . If anybody has received an update via their phased roll-out procedure, I sure would like to know.

Today I noticed that V4.01 has been released with the same message 'we will be doing a phased roll-out to existing clients' .

I got impatient and decided to download V4.01 today, however it ended with a BSOD...
BAD_POOL_CALLER
oxooooooC2 (ox00000007, ox0000109b, ox00 (30009 ox873c4b40)

I restarted in safe mode and selected W7 to go to the restore point prior to BZONE installation. The restore did not complete successfully, however BZ 4.01 was removed and V3.42 is still operational. Interestingly, MSE update definitions were set back to 6/27/2011 (the scan showed as having been run yesterday!). I had to update the defs file (60MB). Do not know why MSE went back that far as the restore I selected was today's date.

Anyone else get a BSOD with V4.01 ? BZ forum is the pits.

Update: I re-installed 4.01 today on W7/32 and it did not BSOD.

NB: for those interested, I got this from BufferZone...
You should not install BZ with the following applications:
  1. Advanced AntiKeyLogger
  2. F-Secure Antivirus
  3. Online Armor
  4. Trusteer
  5. Norton Endpoint Protection
  6. Comodo Internet Security

Do not install WMP 11 and Google Desktop Upgrader inside BufferZone. I think you can add CCleaner to that list (BZ has not confirmed this, but it IMO, it should be on the list).

I have also noticed that this version of Bufferzone is not interfering with LibreOffice. With V3.42, LibreOffice would stop responding if you selected SAVE. You would have to wait for a good minute or so for it to come back.

Another BSOD today.

The system ran just fine for a few days after the re-install of BufferZone 4.01, but today it crashed. Over the past few days I have just been browsing, not installing anything and this morning I updated FF (I was running FF V10 inside BZ at the time).

BSOD: 0X000000.8E (ox0000005,ox90c30036, oxca3bd9f8, 0x0000000)
REDLIGHT.sys (driver error)

I restarted W7. Googled REDLIGHT.SYS

This is a trustware.com driver in Bufferzone. I noticed that there were other BSODs for Bufferzone relating to this driver. Guess it is something they are having trouble with.

Well I was happy with BZ up to this point (it had its warts, but I stayed with it). With recurring BSODs that pop up everytime I install something on this laptop ... I have to get rid of it.

Fortunately I have a lifetime SBIE license which I have been using on my desktop. I think I can use it on multiple computers (have to check this one out ... if not, I'll install the free version on my laptop).

Sorry but this freeware app is off my recommendation list.
