It really depends on how wide your exposure platform is. With sensible surfing anything will protect you well enough, but do the rounds of cr@ck, p@rn and similar stuff, then nothing will
I've also seen reports that some of these so called extra components in firewalls don't stack up to what they claim. Suffice to say I have a bunch of folks here using nothing but FortiClient on my recommendation which was laughed at a while ago yet no one has manged to get infected. I also used Sygate extensively when I was with XP with the same result. Ultimately, go with what you're happiest with and can understand best, and remember there's nothing dangerous out there unless you click on it
