Received an email from AVS support today saying they will not be releasing a 64 bit version of the firewall

sad to hear this, especially since more computers are moving in that direction, wonder why x64 is so different to code than x86... I'm not a programmer so i can't comment on this though :S

It's probably running on 16 bit code!

Apparently windows 32 bit will run 16 bit code and 64 bit runs 32 bit code.

I have installed this firewall on my system now.

I found some strange behavior with this firewall.

First, when it was installed and my system restarted, it showed alerts for two processes from Avast, showing that they were given permissions to connect to internet. Well and good. But, when I am trying to update Avast manually, there is just no activity. The update is not starting. I am suspecting Avs Firewall is behind this issue.

Also, when Opera, Firefox were started, it provided alerts and gave permissions. But, when Orbit Downloader was started, there was no alert, and I also cannot find any log for Orbit in the program. Its strange considering that Orbit connects to internet, and therefore, some kind of log should be there.

Also, the settings don't seem to stick, because my system was started two times after firewall was installed, but on starting, it again shows the alerts for Avast processes. But, it can be attributed to the fact that both times my system was shut down inappropriately... both times because of a power loss. So, maybe the reason was that. I will see how it behaves with normal shutdown and startup.

Will share more as I go along.

it might be in the learning mode, like you have to allow something a few times before it learns you want it to always allow

I set mine as I do with all firewalls to not allow auto rule creation and the default alert time-out to deny. Also, I'm using Windows 7 so can't really compare with Anupam.

Well, after a normal shutdown and start, the rules stuck, so that's good. Still, I found it strange, because the turn-off because of power loss had occurred sometime after the rules had been set, and they were permanent. Anyways, its good now.

There is no learning mode in the firewall. Can't see anywhere.

I still find it strange that no alerts were raised for Orbit, and there is no trace of it anywhere in the firewall.
