Default Email spam

Today I logged onto my hotmail account to find that a spam email has been sent from my account to everyone in my address book.

Does this mean that someone has hacked into my account and sent the email, or could this be some sort of malware?

More sepcidically, it was one of those emails that says something along the lines of 'look at this cool site, its amazing! ............(web address)'

It was also 5 seperate emails all linking to 5 different sites, which seemingly split my address book into 5 groups, so one email went to each group, all 5 emails did not got to everyone, everyone would have received one of those 5.

This happened to me a couple months ago. And, yes, I believe it means that your account has been hacked. (I know of several other friends who's hotmail account was also hacked.)

As quickly as possible, log into your account and change your email password! Make it much more difficult to hack!

I suppose it could be either hacking or malware.

When that happened to me with several of my Yahoo mail accounts I changed the password and did not have the issue again.

You could try that, perhaps using one of the password generators mentioned in 14.27 of the Best Free Security List

OK, cheers.

First thing I did was change my password to one generated by LastPass.

Hopefully that will fix it.

You should also use https even when logging in with Lastpass.
