Avira Antivir Personal will now be known as Avira Free Antivirus.

Support for Windows 2000 has been cancelled.

Avira will now support XP SP3 on 32-bit, and XP SP2 on 64-bit.

Several other changes and improvements are there.

Yep wolfstr, I intend to take it for a spin myself, after I have downloaded the hefty 79 MB of it .

Thanks for posting the download link, I was thinking of posting it too.. since the official link leads to CNET :|

One thing I noticed is that the avguard.exe for 2012 memory usage is down to 24,572k as compared to 82,300k for 2010 upon for the first ten minutes on startup. Also there are no nagging popups for updating or the infamous ask toolbar.
Seems a bit slower on bootup than 2010 but might improve as 2012 gets settled in more.

Thanks for some good news wolfstr .

Have they changed the way in which definitions update? I mean, has the frequency increased, or updating only occurs on boot time? I think that's the one change I would like to see.

Do you need to uninstall Avira first when updating to 12?

Decided to take the plunge with the old Avira still installed. However, during installation of Avira 12 it stated that I needed to uninstall my firewall (Comodo) along with Comodo antivrus (which I don't have installed!) and Spyware Blaster.

Unsurprisingly I have decided to leave things how they were and wait until there is more feedback regarding version 12.
